[edit] Information
At first light on August 7, 1942, 10,000 U.S. Marines attacked Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. This small island had suddenly become vitally important to both sides when the Japanese began to construct an airfield. The fight to hold the island became a monumental face off between two battle-hardened commanders--U.S. Marine Alexander Vandegrift and Japanese General Haruyoshi Hyakutake. We'll look at the battle that raged for four months, on land, at sea, and in the air. Produced by Nugus/Martin Productions Ltd for The History Channel
