Hitler is 'back' - but did he ever leave? Adolf Hitler wakes up on a patch of open ground, alive and well. It's the summer of 2014 and things have changed--no Eva Braun, no Nazi party, no war. Hitler barely recognizes his beloved Fatherland, filled with immigrants and run by a woman. People certainly recognize him--as a flawless impersonator who refuses to break character. The unthinkable happens, and the ranting Hitler goes viral, becomes a YouTube star, gets his own TV show, and people begin to listen. TV producers take him to be a Hitler impersonator of rare method-acting genius. But the Fuhrer has another program with even greater ambition in mind--to set the country he finds in shambles back to rights. His rants against foreigners and the welfare state are both consumed as comedy and secretly admired by a German public fed up with modern politics. With daring dark humor, Look Who's Back is a perceptive study of the cult of personality and of how individuals rise to fame and power in spite of what they preach. The film features unscripted vignettes of actor Oliver Masucci as Hitler interacting with ordinary Germans, interspersed with storyline sequences. He finds good Turks, assuming that they are an indicator of Karl Doenitz having persuaded Turkey to join the Axis, likes the Green Party, and cannot relate to the far-right party NPD. He is enthusiastic about Wikipedia, thinking that Wikipedia is named for "Wikinger", and complains about the lousy evening program on TV. Look Who's Back (Er ist wieder da) is based on the novel by journalist Timur Vermes of the same title. The book stunned and then thrilled 1.5 million German readers with its fearless approach to the most taboo of subjects. Naive yet insightful, repellent yet strangely sympathetic, the revived Hitler unquestionably has a spring in his step. LOOK WHO'S BACK shows us our reflection in the mirror. Hitler becomes a catalyst who lets us learn something about ourselves. Racial hatred, anti-Semitism, democracy sullenness are on the rise. Not in the fictional world of the book, but in reality. Hitler's crude theories, his world view and the simple answers he would give could meet with many people's approval. LOOK WHO'S BACK puts the finger on this wound. This is why the protagonist interacts with normal people. The scenes are recorded documentary, to show the reality beside the fiction.
