National Geographic's brilliant cinematography brings the fury of windstorms to life in Cyclone! Tornadoes whip through the Midwest, causing incalculable damage; Hurricane Andrew batters Florida with impossible force; typhoons wreak havoc on tiny Pacific islands. You can stand right in the middle of these events in the relative safety of your living room while scientists study them to learn how to predict future events and ordinary citizens struggle to survive and recover from their devastation. The footage is dramatic and sometimes touching, particularly the hunt for survivors in Florida following Andrew's 1992 tantrum. The scientific information is presented clearly, and though we're still far from the day when we can feel safe from these storms, it is reassuring to know how far we've come. --Rob Lightner
