The disappearance and fate of the tomb of Alexander the Great in Alexandria is among the most momentous and tantalising of all the mysteries we have inherited from the ancient world. Alexander the Great continues to capture the imagination even to this day. The Macedonian ruler conquered large swathes of Asia and north Africa, consolidating a massive empire through an unprecedented military campaign before his death at just 32. In 199 AD, Alexander's tomb was sealed up by Roman Emperor, Septimius Severus, in Alexandria, later on in 215 AD some items from his tomb were apparently relocated. Due to governmental infighting and archaeological confusion, locating the tomb of Alexander the Great has been a quest for the ages. Generations of archaeologists and historians have succumbed to the allure of the quest; yet have failed significantly to elucidate the enigma. Now archaeologist Calliope Limneos-Papakosta, director of the Hellenic Research Institute of the Alexandrian Civilization, is on a mission to find Alexander the Great's lost tomb. Excavations in Alexandria's ancient royal quarter provide intriguing hints to the famous conqueror's final resting place. Excavating in a public garden in the centre of the city founded 2300 years ago, Alexandria, Egypt, she has unearthed a rare, marble statue of Alexander, Greek treasures and secret tunnels.
